Proud to share my latest piece published in Diverse: Issues In Higher Education titled “The Strategic Necessity of Rest: Protecting Higher Education in an Era of Uncertainty.”
Higher education is under constant pressure. From policy threats to cultural resistance, many leaders find themselves stuck in a cycle of nonstop reaction. We cannot afford to burn out. This article calls on us to view rest, reflection, and renewal not as luxuries but as strategic necessities in the fight for justice and democracy.
In it, I reflect on a nightly habit of playing Sudoku and how it revealed something simple but powerful. We think more clearly, endure longer, and strategize better when we are well rested. If we truly want to protect our institutions and values, we must resist the culture of exhaustion.
Thank you to Diverse: Issues In Higher Education for the platform to share these thoughts.
I welcome your reflections on how you are building rest and renewal into your leadership and daily life.
